Over 75 health checks |
|
| If you are over 75 years old we offer you an
annual health check. This takes the form of a physical check by a nurse at
the health centre. We look for health problems you are unaware of that we
can treat, and advise you about maintaining health. You may need to see a
doctor for advice after a check if a possible problem is found. Many patients over 75 see a doctor or nurse periodically anyway, and such a check would often be unnecessary, but we advise all over 75s to make an appointment with a nurse for a check if they have not been seen for a year. If you are housebound the same check can be done in your home, although physical examinations can not usually be done as well as at the Health Centre where we have better facilities for examination. Even if you have not been seen and you take regular medication, a doctor reviews your medication as a routine at least every 6 months, although you will not be aware of this. It is now the duty of general practitioners (since 1-4-2004) to conduct enquiries into the general health of all patients over 75 who have not had a consultation for a year, when they consult us. So if you are over 75 and have not seen a doctor or nurse for a year you should expect us to quiz you about general health matters. We feel sure that most patients will be pleased about this. |
