Plan for your antenatal care

 

The purpose of this letter is to provide you with information regarding the care you can expect to receive during your pregnancy.

Your midwifery care will be provided by Stephanie Waterhouse (midwife tel: 0115 9375426) and your G.P.

You may be seen more frequently than outlined below depending on your individual needs.

Midwives clinics are held at the surgery on Monday morning for bookings and Tuesday mornings for follow up appointments. You are entitled to paid time off work for antenatal visits.

 

7 – 11 weeks. Midwife booking visit. A full history of any previous pregnancies and your general health will be taken. You will be advised about your antenatal care and provided with relevant health information. Bloods will be taken and referral sent to the hospital. This is your opportunity to discuss any issues that you are concerned with.

 

12 –16 weeks. You will attend the hospital for a dating scan. Some women will have an      appointment to see an obstetrician, depending on individual needs, as assessed by your G.P. or midwife.

 

16 weeks. See your midwife in the antenatal clinic. Antenatal screening tests for Downs Syndrome and /or Spina Bifida will be taken at this visit if required.

 

20 weeks. You will be offered a detailed scan at the hospital and depending on your individual needs you may see an obstetrician.

 

24 weeks See the G.P. for a routine check up.

 

28 weeks See your midwife for a routine check up and further blood tests for anaemia and antibodies. Ladies who are rhesus negative will require an injection of Anti-d at this visit.

 

31 weeks See the G.P. for routine check up and blood results.

 

34 weeks See the midwife for a routine antenatal check. A further injection of prophalytic Anti d will also be required for rhesus negative ladies at this visit.

 

36 weeks See the midwife for a routine antenatal check up, discussion about labour and postnatal care, and a final blood test to check for anaemia

 

38 weeks See the G.P. for a routine check up and blood results.

 

40 weeks See the midwife for a routine check up.

 

41 weeks Hospital or Midwife consultation and assessment. A date for induction of labour will be arranged
