Breast screening

Mammography is offered to all women of 50 and over as part of a national programme. Every 3 years a letter is sent to eligible women. It is done by geographical area so although the screening is done in Nottingham, Keyworth only comes round every 3 years. Therefore if you are just 50 and Keyworth has just been done you would normally have to wait until the next time round. This practice was screened in the summer of 2005 and therefore the next time will be spring 2008.

Up to now the screening programme has been for 50 to 65 year olds, although after the age of 65 it has still been possible to stay in the programme on request.

We now encourage women over 65 to stay in the programme and get screened every 3 years.

If you have just moved into this area and have perhaps missed a call up at your previous area, and now find you are not due to be called here for a long time, you can be given an appointment ahead of time.

If you have previously refused screening and have now changed your mind, you need not wait until the next time round but be given a sooner appointment.

There is a telephone number for people who have missed out on screening and want to be included sooner than the next round. 0115 9623226 (Breast Screening Unit)

If you think you have something wrong with a breast you must see a doctor. Screening is for people who do NOT have a breast problem
