From 1-4-2006 dispensing doctors (that includes us at Keyworth Health Centre) have been required to register for VAT as a result of changed government legislation. Certain items of service that we provide for patients are now included for VAT. Since we only charge patients for private fees, this will not affect most patients. (Prescription charges are zero rated). What is chargeable and what isn't has not been finalised between the powers that be and Customs and Excise, neither have we yet been given a VAT registration number. As soon as this information is available we will publish it. As far as we understand, VAT will only apply to certain medical examinations and medical reports which are done in connection with claims for payment. Patients are advised to be prepared to pay VAT on such things in the future. |
