General Medical Services
General Medical Services are the basic things you expect of a doctor is contracted to the Rushcliffe Primary Care Trust to provide. At present these basic services are the same for all GPs in England and Wales, but slowly changing in line with the NHS plan. Already some medical practices provide what is termed Primary Medical Services instead. At Keyworth we still provide under the old system of General Medical Services. General Medical Services include providing a 24 hour 365 days a year service whereby you can get attention to your medical needs through the responsible doctor whose name is on your medical card.
What this means in practice is that we provide you with access to a doctor, through appointments usually, and in an emergency see that you get urgent attention. We will also provide you with medication that you need by issuing a prescription, and refer you to a specialist when necessary. We will also visit you at your home to provide these services if it is appropriate to do so.
As you can see, these are the vary basic things that you expect. Doctors' contracts are gradually changing, and in future there may be quite different arrangements as contracts are tailored to be more in keeping with local needs and resources.
